Howard's Appliance and Flat Screen was founded in 1946 by  Mr. Howard Roach. Howard started by repairing televisions in the back room of a sporting goods store in San Gabriel.  As the service business grew he expanded into TV sales by opening a small store on the corner of Valley Blvd. and Palm in San Gabriel.  Over the years, as the sales and service business prospered, Howard kept acquiring adjacent businesses to his store on Valley Blvd. until the entire block was occupied by Howard’s.  During this period, he added major appliances, personal audio stereo and accessories to his sales categories.  In 1981, the second location was added in La Habra followed by Upland in 1988, Long Beach in 1993, Lake Forest in 1994, and Huntington Beach in 1994.  In 1997, we moved our Lake Forest store to a 34,000 ft2 showroom in Laguna Hills.  In October 2001, Howard’s opened a seventh store in Santa Ana.    In October 2002, Howard’s launched its website, www.howards.com.  This site contains over 2000 items in its shopping cart and continues to expand its capabilities to better serve Southern California shoppers.  In November 2003, Howard’s opened an eighth store in Corona.  In March 2006, Howard’s moved its 64,000 square foot Service Center and Warehouse in El Monte to a new 172,000 square foot facility in Pico Rivera. In March 2008, Howard’s opened its 9th store in Riverside.  In 2009 Howard's opened their 10th Superstore in Torrance. Currently, Howard’s employs over 200 dedicated people that contribute to our success in a very competitive industry.     We are proud of our employees, our successful development of reputation, and our expansion of products and services offered, which we feel have resulted from providing top quality services to our customers.  The growth and reputation of the company are the direct results of individual efforts and close cooperation by all of our employees.  Our future success, in the ever increasing competitive appliance and television industries, will depend upon the continued and increased efforts of our employees and strict adherence to high professional standards and ideals.  Success is only made possible by satisfied customers and the teamwork of all.

1946 - 1967
Howard’s was founded by Howard Roach in 1946. It began as a radio repair shop in the back of a sporting goods store in San Gabriel, California. Satisfied customers throughout the San Gabriel Valley enabled Howard to expand into the “new” television repair business, and into his first store at 300 East Valley Boulevard in San Gabriel. Howard’s service business was extremely successful, but customers were beginning to request “new” color TV sets. Howard decided to add sales to his established service business. The company name went from Howard’s to Howard’s TV.
1968 - 1980
Over the years, Howard’s gathered experienced technicians and sales people to help with the TV sales and service growth. In 1968, Howard listened to his customers again. They wanted a local store to service and sell appliances, so Howard began selling and servicing brand name appliances. As the business grew, the location at 300 E. Valley was expanded to the entire block. Howard’s first block-long superstore was born. To insure fast delivery and service to customers, the warehouse and service center were combined into an 80,000 square foot complex in El Monte. Howard’s TV was now Howard’s TV and Appliances.   top
1981 - 1987
Howard wanted to have all of his employees share in the growth of the company. So instead of a conventional profit sharing plan, he started an employee stock ownership plan. Since then, all of Howard’s employees have been able to own a part of the company. To better serve an expanding marketplace, Howard’s second block-long superstore opened in La Habra in 1981.
1988 - 1992
In 1988, the expanding marketplace led Howard’s to open a superstore in Upland.   top
1993 - 2005
Howard’s Long Beach superstore opened in 1993. In 1994, the Laguna Hills and Huntington Beach superstores were opened. In 2001, Santa Ana was added making it the seventh Howard’s Superstore. Also in 2001, Howard’s added completely new product lines to increase selection for customers. Howard’s continues to offer Southern California the largest selection of brand name appliances. Howard’s TV, VCR and DVD selection has been expanded to include the best selling big-screens available. In 2003, Corona became the eighth Howard’s superstore location. Also in 2003, Angels Manager Mike Scioscia became Howard's corporate spokesman.
2006 - Present
In March 2006, Howard’s moved its 64,000 square foot Service Center & Warehouse in El Monte to a new 172,000 square foot facility in Pico Rivera. In March 2008, Howard’s opened its 9th store in Riverside and later in 2008 Howard's became "The Official Appliance and Flat Screen Superstores of the Angels."  In 2009 Howard's opened their 10th Superstore in Torrance. Currently, Howard’s employs over 200 dedicated people that contribute to our success in a very competitive industry.
