Howard's was founded in 1946 when Howard Roach began repairing radios in the back of a sporting goods store in San Gabriel, California. Due to Howard's focus on customer satisfaction, the business has grown over the past 74 years to become Southern California's largest and most trusted independent retailer of appliances, TVs, and mattresses. Reports to: SVP of Finance

Job Summary:
The Financial Analyst is responsible for financial planning, analysis, and projection for the Company. This person forecasts

Essentials Functions:

    • Support vendor/business partner relationships
    • Manage all aspects of vendor rebates
    • Manage P&L and participate in budget preparation.
    • Generate and maintain Daily, Weekly and or Monthly department metric reporting
    • Prepare monthly financial statements and support business reviews to executive leadership
    • Support annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes
    • Provide meaningful variance analysis for sales and expenses: biweekly productivity reports and ROI on monthly marketing expenditures
    • Responsible for processing payroll
    • Closely monitor results against the annual budget and re-forecasts. Properly escalate material risks or known variances
    • Provide exceptional support to other departments to improve the financial status of the company.
    • Assisting in preparing financial reporting packages for debt compliance purposes
    • Assist in identifying Financial Reporting process improvements and recommend actions
    • Gain a robust understanding of each department and their interdependencies.
    • Prepare ad-hoc reports and analysis for Senior Management Team and Corporate as needed.
    • Other duties as assigned.

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

      • Requires sitting for a long period of time
      • Repetitive usage of keyboard, mouse and other office desk equipment.
      • Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.
      • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.


      • BS/BA in Business, Finance, or Accounting and equivalent experience
      • Strong Analytical and problem-solving skills: Position requires ability to apply critical thinking to dissimilar problems and deliver fact supported analysis, and the capability to quickly switch between strategic thinking and tactical execution
      • Attention to detail when reviewing potential investments, as small issues may lead to large complications for the overall health of an investment
      • Decision-making skills to provide recommendations to sell, hold or buy a security
      • Math skills for estimating financial values
      • Ability to promote a culture of collaboration and teamwork across the organization and possess the ability to work across multiple teams.
      • Advanced Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point) experience
      • Comfortable presenting to and working directly with senior management
      • Experience with continual process improvement methods.
      • Aptitude for numbers
      • Ability to exhibit patience and professionalism when interacting with internal and external customers
      • Acute attention to detail
      • Ability to prepare reports and business correspondence
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
      • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflow
      • Ability to work independently and as a member of various teams and committees
      • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm


      • Candidates with experience in a fast-paced environment are highly desirable

The value of the ESOP is dependent on the success and profitability of the company, so the value of ESOP shares can fluctuate over time. Generally, a 7% growth is average, but if the company does especially well, there can be incredible share value increases year to year. Over time, ESOP allocations can add up to large numbers. Plus, unlike a 401(k), employees do not contribute any of their own money towards their ESOP, so anything they receive is extra and at no cost to them.
