Fun to Have at the Orange County Fair
July 30, 2019 by Dale Dauterive
If you’re a fan of fried foods, Ferris wheels and fun times, then you must be spending quite a bit of time at the Orange County Fair this summer! Perfect for a night out with the kids, an entertaining date, or a rich, fulfilling meal, there’s lots of charm at one of Southern California’s largest fairs.
We have the inside scoop on what to explore, and what might just surprise you at the OC Fair. This year’s fair runs until August 11, so plan your visit while you can!
It’s easy to run directly to the taco cart or corndog stand, but there is so much more to see at the fair that you might not be aware of. The food is a must—we’re not arguing that, but the funnel cakes aren’t going anywhere.
While you’re at the fair, venture out and experience something new to make your visit even more memorable. From concerts and racetracks, to shopping and beer fests, step right up and take part in a variety of diverse summer activities.
Costa Mesa Speedway
Taking place during the fair is the adrenaline pumping, pulse pounding action of the Costa Mesa Speedway. Celebrating 50 years of legendary racing, you’ll experience the madness and nostalgia of these high-compression, single cylinder bikes sliding sideways through near impossible angles as they round each end of the track. With the smaller track size and stadium viewing, you won’t miss a thing—surely to feel the vibration, smell the exhaust, and get a little bit of dust kicked up near your face. It’s a motorcycle lover’s dream.
This colorful and thrilling family entertainment showcases freestyle motocross, sidecars, Harley nights, National Speedway Championships, and more! Check out the raceway to really rev up your summer fair experience.
Pacific Amphitheatre/The Hangar
If you need a break from the amusement rides and want to experience some live music, check out a show at the Pacific Amphitheatre! Each night at the fair, various acts perform their biggest hits under the starlight as part of the Summer Concert Series. It’s a fair concert so you’re bound to hear some classic 80s bands!
If supporting the local circuit is more your thing, stop by The Hangar for the best live entertainment, tribute bands Wednesdays-Saturdays, and Sunday night specials. If you have your ticket to the fair, you get free access to the nightly performances. Bust out your best air guitar and get ready to shred all night long!
Everyone loves the chance to win a giant stuffed Rasta-banana, but if you want a real souvenir, shop at Crafters Village to support your local artisans and get the best deals on all fair products. There’s specialty shops and unique vendors selling products from spas and hammocks to local health-food products and culinary equipment—so you’re bound to find the perfect trinkets or accessory to take home with you. New products and amazing discounts will be available each and every night—you’ll shop ’til you drop.
The OC Fair features a variety of exhibits, showcasing the unique talents of California. Exhibits in culinary arts, agriculture, animals, local crafts, and visual arts reveals the wide array of what the local community has to offer.
If you want to spruce up your evening even more, there are a few special events you’ll want to mark on your calendar ahead of time. Attend the annual beer fest for hours of tastings, commemorative glasses and free admission to the fair. There’s the junior livestock auction where the Future Farmers of America showcase their livestock, as well. You can gather your friends and family for a day of fitness and participate in the 5k run, sit in on a barn wedding, or attend City Days on your hometown’s day, where the OC Fair honors local towns within Orange County.
The opportunities for a fun and unique experience at the fair are endless. If you decide to bring the fair to your kitchen, Howard’s Appliance has all kinds of appliances to replicate your favorite fair cuisine. Stop in today and we’ll find help you find exactly what you need.
