Howard's was founded in 1946 when Howard Roach began repairing radios in the back of a sporting goods store in San Gabriel, California. Due to Howard's focus on customer satisfaction, the business has grown over the past 74 years to become Southern California's largest and most trusted independent retailer of appliances, TVs, and mattresses. With 14 locations, our goal is to provide our customers with the highest level of service, the best product selection, and the best deals around!

Job: Accounting Supervisor
Store: Corporate, La Habra CA
Reports to: SVP of Accounting - M & A
Department: 001300 - Corporate Office -Gen.Office (Department)

Supervisory Role: N/A

Essentials Functions:

  • Hands-on Accounting Supervisor to manage the day-to-day accounting functions and month-end close including but not limiting to Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Fixed Assets, Inventories, Journal Entries, Account reconciliations.
  • Responsible for cash deposit reconciliations on POS, merchant portals, bank deposits, and journals
  • Responsible for resolutions on charge-back, reconciliations of installation and delivery bills, vendor’s rebates
  • Oversees accounts payable, accounts recievable
  • Manages, trains, and provides guidance to accounting staff
  • Assists with ERP conversion
  • Assists in adoption of new accounting standards including but not limited to researching standard, preparing written accounting policy for company, and preparing new disclosures
  • Assists with company cash flow analysis including but not limited to tracking cash flow activity, preparing reports, and analyzing information for management
  • Supports policy development and offer advice regarding accounting and internal control issues, reporting needs, and policy review and changes
  • Develops reporting and variance analysis regarding departmental operating budget versus actual expenses
  • Assists with due diligence projects and annual reviews
  • Assists with related special projects as required

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

  • Requires sitting for a long period of time
  • Repetitive usage of keyboard, mouse, and other office desk equipment
  • Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds

Work Schedules:

  • Flexible in working overtime if needed
  • Ability to sustain a good attendance track record

Qualifications:

  • Experience in retail industry highly preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or equivalent
  • At least 3 years related experience in the position
  • Strong communications and problem-solving skills
  • Result-oriented with commitment to the excellence and high standard
  • Great analytical and organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a fast pace, multi-tasking environment
  • Ability to work with all levels of management with customer service mindset
  • Strong accounting skills and process improvements
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of various teams and committees
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm
  • Willingness to visit other locations and enforce company's policies/processes 

Preferred:

  • Candidates with experience in a fast-paced environment are highly desirable

More about ESOP

The value of the ESOP is dependent on the success and profitability of the company, so the value of ESOP shares can fluctuate over time. Generally, a 7% growth is average, but if the company does especially well, there can be incredible share value increases year to year. Over time, ESOP allocations can add up to large numbers. Plus, unlike a 401(k), employees do not contribute any of their own money towards their ESOP, so anything they receive is extra and at no cost to them.
